Of Porcupines and Friends

Beware of your friends;
do not trust your brothers.
For every brother is a deceiver,
and every friend is a slanderer.

Friend deceives friend,
and no one speaks the truth.
They have taught their tongues to lie;
they weary themselves with sinning.

You live in the midst of deception;
In their deceit they refuse to acknowledge me,"
declares the Lord.

-Jeremiah 9:4-6

How long should you go on trusting a friend if that friend keeps on hurting you? A friend's friend's friend answered, "It's like porcupine. You don't know that it will sting you yet so you go near and try to touch it. Once it stings and you feel the pain, for sure, you aren't going to let it happen again."

Trust is a sacred thing. It doesn't mean you should not trust anymore but rather, practice caution in trusting. In the end, there is no one in this world that we can trust fully. Yes, you can't trust me a lot too. I will fail, you will fail, we all fail. If there is one person whom your whole trust must be anchored, it must be on God alone.

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. -Psalm 118:8

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

-Psalm 46:1-3
