A Peek of Ju-Mong
Jumong--not her Prince
Song Il-Gook (the actor for Jumong) & Han Hye-Jin (the actress for So-Seo-No) were at the 'Make A Wish' event with the newly appointed goodwill ambassadors for the city of Seoul. Children were given the chance to give letters to the Korean celebrities present and the celebrities will grant their wishes.
This happened when Ju-Mong was the leading tv series in Korea. The nation's heart has only Ju-Mong as their prince but it seems that in this video, a little girl is immune to the prince's charm.
[IN THE VIDEO: It wasn't anything he said that made the girl upset. The little girl just wished for something Song Il-Gook (Jumong) couldn't help her with on the spot (meeting Ayumi, the celebrity she likes) ]

Happy Christmas Everyone!
His death is something He doesn't have to do but He chose to do so because He loves us. Remember. Remember His death on the day of His birth.
Happy Christmas everyone! :)
History and Jumong

It's a mix of adventure, history, political & war tactics, loyalty, friendship and romance. One thing I liked about Jumong is that unlike other dramas, the romance between the characters does not overshadow the rest of the story. Rather, it uses the romance between characters to compliment other parts. Today we ended in the part where Jumong gave the jade ring to So-Seo-No. Jumong only spoke a line and the rest of the scene was very well acted. The response in Soseono's eyes said words better left unspoken but felt. At that point, me and my sister were just going nuts! Haha.
I highly recommend this series to anybody who loves history. The series alone is educational enough.

When God Made You
Needless to say, I really liked the song. Its contemporary style made me think that it's an OST from a Disney Princess movies. I just thought I'd post this here since it's been playing on my mind at random times... like now.
(Please turn off the Christmas song in my Nimrodel widget if you wish to listen to When God Made You.)
When God Made You - Newsong
Newsong/Natalie Grant
It's always been a mystery to me,
How two hearts can come together,
And love can last forever.
But now that I have found you I believe,
That a miracle has come when God sends the perfect one.
So gone are all my questions about why,
And I've never been so sure of anything in my life
.::CHORUS::.
Oh I wonder what God was thinking, when he created you.
I wonder if He knew everything I would need,
Because he made all my dreams come true.
When God made you, He must have been thinking about me.
I promise that wherever you may go, wherever life may lead you,
With all my heart I'll be there too.
And from this moment on I want you to know,
I'll let nothing come between us, and I will love the ones you love.
Now gone are all my questions about why, about why
And I've never been so sure of anything in my life
(.::CHORUS::.)
He made the sun He made the moon,
To harmonize a perfect tune,
One can't do without the other they just have to be together.
And that is how I know its true,
You're for me and I'm for you and my world
Just can't be right without you in my life
(.::CHORUS::.)
He must have heard every prayer I've been praying
I've been praying, He must've knew everything I would need
When God made you, He must've been thinking about me.

A Christmas Reminder
Christmas is the most celebrated season of the year. Merriment and joyous signs are everywhere. Houses glow with Christmas lights. Shopping malls decorated with Christmas trees and beautiful garlands are full of people shopping for gifts. Mothers bake and prepare for Christmas dinner. Fathers get their extra bonuses from work. Children make their wish list. Aunts and uncles send their gifts over. The post office becomes busy with cards to be sent. Students pack up and leave their colleges to spend Christmas holiday at home. People hold all kinds of Christmas parties and gift-giving to charities.
Just what really is Christmas that everybody is so busy with it?
I once heard on the radio that Christmas is about caring and sharing to others. Giving to poor and being good. It's all about love the dj concluded. But, just what kind of love is he talking about?
The video I'm sharing below is a wonderful modern parable and a great reminder of the True Love that should matter on hearts this Christmas. Please don't walk away from this site without having viewed the video. It's only around six minutes and those minutes you will spend on watching will be more than worth it.
Happy Christmas from Ladies-In-Training! Cherish our Father's great love in our hearts this Christmas and in all seasons to come!

Thoughts and Rambles on Twilight

I’ve just read Twilight.
Not that because it’s a big deal because it isn’t. I don’t want to seem to announce that I’ve joined the bandwagon of Twilight fans, because I have not. I have wanted to read Twilight because I was curious. Curious of who Edward Cullen is. I wondered if he is one of those male book characters next in the line of the likes of Mr. Darcy, a man of character and honor. Another reason –-which is a bit silly though—is simply his name, Edward. I’ve always liked the name Edward. Such a beautiful name.
Starting off with names, I must say Stephenie Meyer has a very good taste in names. I loved the names, Carlisle, Isabella, Esme, and of course, Edward. I loved their names but what’s more important is that they measure up to their beautiful names. I have nothing to say with Dr. Carlisle and Esme. They are a great couple. Showed love and compassion to people around them. They weren’t selective.
Edward on the other hand was faithful enough to his name, which meant, wealthy guardian in Old English. He’s literally wealthy with his Volvo and splendid home. He never left Bella. He has a sense of self-control more than Bella does.
I think Bella a self-serving imp. Not one bit did she live up to her beautiful name. I dislike her. Not because Edward likes her but because her character isn’t something to look up to. All she thought of was herself. She says that she cares for Edward yet her actions betray her. One instance was when Edward insisted that she informs her father that they are going out. She never told him. That totally irked me. Even if she doesn’t like her father it isn’t a valid reason to disrespect him. He has the right to know because she lives under his care. Whether she hates her father so much, I don’t care. Charlie is her father, no matter how odious he may be, he deserves respect.
Compare Bella’s and Edward’s family. I appreciate the Cullens very much because of their openness. I admire how Carlisle has educated his “children.” The Swans, on the other hand, are not even trying very much to restore their relationship.
Edward knows how to act accordingly unlike Bella. He has manners and quite a good character. I think that’s very important. Edward doesn’t deserve Bella unless she reforms and equals Edward in character. Her so much called love, is nothing more than obsession. And obsession is so much different from love. She doesn’t really understand Edward. Edward wants what’s good for her and she doesn’t get that. She knows she’s weak but have she ever tried becoming strong for Edward? I think not.
I hope to have a higher regard for Bella in New Moon and I hope Edward doesn’t fall short of my expectations on him on the sequel. As you might have also noticed in this rambling of reactions on the book, I evaded the fact that the Cullens were vampires. I did it on purpose. I just want to focus on the character they have and not their being. The character of a novel character—especially the protagonist’s—is very important to me.
As for Edward Cullen falling in line with the celebrated gentleman book characters such as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gilbert Blythe, Aragorn, George Knightley, etc. he is a little near it—dodging the fact of course that he’s a vampire. I’m not sure though if his character could outlast or even equal the reputation of Mr. Darcy in almost two centuries since Pride and Prejudice have been published. Time can only tell.
Twilight is an okay reading for leisure though I would only recommend it to people who have a good understanding of what is fiction and what is not, what is character and what is not, what is commendable and what is repudiating. I would not recommend Twilight to my younger siblings until they are 17 or 18 and have a good understanding of what I have just mentioned.
Twilight is an enjoyable book with its supernaturalities and turns but not deep enough to reread again and again. It doesn’t have the depth I’m looking for. The words are just there. One read and you understand it. I prefer challenge in books where you have to delve into sentences because it’s trying to point out something important. Twilight isn’t just that. Therefore, Twilight falls into my category of Leisure Reading.

Indescribable
It’s one of the best songs ever written to describe God… but well it failed to describe God because the words of man cannot fully give enough description to describe Him. When we think of something as His attribute, we write it down and then another comes to mind, and another comes until we exhaust ourselves of attributes. He is truly indescribable. Uncontainable. It’s way beyond our comprehension why He, God and Creator of all things, perfect and unblemished, powerful and glorious chose to love us.
Laura Story did a great job of writing the song and Chris Tomlin just sings it really well.
The song always comes back to mind and is always stuck when it does come.
If you haven’t heard of the song yet, well you better check it out! Here’s a video:
And here are the lyrics:
INDESCRIBABLE
written by Laura Story
as performed by Chris Tomlin
From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
You are amazing God
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
Incomparable, unchangeable
You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same
You are amazing God
You are amazing God

William Wilberforce is my HERO!
Messiah College began its missions week yesterday with a film viewing of Amazing Grace, the William Wilberforce story. Alyssa C. knew how much and how long I have been wanting to see the movie so she invited me. Most people have no idea who William Wilberforce is. I barely had any idea of him until a review of the movie was posted in The Rebelution early last year.
After reading the review and the comments I made a quick research about this man. Who is he that people had to make a movie about him? At that moment William Wilberforce, once a man unknown earned my highest respect. He is someone that young people of today should look up. The kind of hero we must imitate.
Movies that never cease to make me cry are special. It means that the message got through my heart. Amazing Grace is one movie that will surely cut your heart on how amazing He is. He loved us and freed us from the slavery of sin even if we don't deserve it. William Wilberforce was not doing something new when he fought against slavery. He was merely continuing the fight against slavery that Jesus began.
For those who have not watched Amazing Grace, has never heard of Amazing Grace and needs a push to watch Amazing Grace, here’s the trailer.

This blog has a lot to catch up...
As for catching up, last June, an early Christmas present came (though it isn't really for Christmas)... something that I no longer expected to arrive.
Tada! My copy of Do Hard Things from the authors themselves! I was ecstatic about it! When the post master handed the parcel to me, I have wanted to jump in the hall!
"This is it! This is it!"
I was still in disbelief when I got the book. I could not believe that the book expected to come on April would still arrive in June. I mean... it's late, so I thought it was lost. Look closely at the photo and you'll see the parcel was missent to Thailand.
I hope Do Hard Things will also come to the Philippines. Imported books are expensive so hopefully if it gets published locally, it will be cheaper and more would be able to avail it. If you're a Filipino and would want to have Do Hard Things come soon to the Philippines please inform me through comments or by emailing me at christin.alvarez@gmail.com. Share what you think and together let's do the hard thing of bringing the book here.

Doulos Chronicles
December 4, 2007 Tuesday
Our professor for Laws Affecting Mass Media confined himself to the hospital so my class is still looking for a professor to replace him. Since we did not have classes for the rest of the day, I told my classmate Rhea that I’d be going to Doulos. Her mind was made up that she will not go with me but after some moments of persuasion, she agreed to go with me. After telling some more classmates about Doulos, I had two more for company, so we had four for a company.
The ride to the South Harbor wasn’t long or perhaps I was just oblivious to it because of my longing to see Doulos. It’s been eleven months when 2007 began with Doulos berthed in Manila and now 2007 is ending Doulos is again berthed where I first saw it. I led my company in the long walk from the South Harbor Gate to Pier 13.
Doulos was docked handsomely in Pier 13 with its peaceful blue and white color. There it was docked like it never left the bay at all last January. The gangways were in the same position as I found it eleven months ago. I sadly left Doulos last January knowing that it might be years again before I see it. But now that it’s here and barely even a year has passed, a deep and still sadness sprang from my heart. It’s Doulos’ last visit to Manila and to the Philippines as a whole. When she leaves Subic on January, she will never come back to our shores. On 2010 she will have to retire after 96 years of life on sea.
I paid the entrance fee, got the tickets for my troop and chatted a bit with the crew assigned in the ticket booth. After showing the ticket to the ticket-taker, I took the position of a tour guide to my classmates. Something I love doing in places I love such as Doulos. ^_^ I just toured them around the bookshop and the bargain section since I do not have the right to tour them myself around the ship. If I were a crew in Doulos I would. ^_^
After entering the bookshop I left my classmates at liberty to go around and explore the books in the bookshop. I prefer visiting Doulos on weekdays because there aren’t many people and the crew would have more time to chat with people who ask lot of questions like me. ^_^
My classmates just canvassed the prices of the books and other items they want to buy since they decided to return next week. I bought myself Out of the Comfort Zone by George Verwer and strawberry ice cream in the Doulos Ice Cream parlor. Too bad they don’t have chocolate. I like it mixed with vanilla. Well, most probably my classmates will starve themselves for a week to save up for the list of items they want to buy. ^_^ Anyhow, seeing my classmates enjoying the books in Doulos made me glad and excited to bring them again to the ship next week.
