Ice Skating In SM Megamall

I am not a professional skater. This post is merely based on my experience as a recreational skater. That being said, let's begin.

If you're a recreational or a first-time skater, it's best to condition your body before you head to the ice. Off ice activity is as important as being on ice, because if your body isn't conditioned, you're sure to get stiff and won't be able to move around the ice very much. And worse, after your ice hours, your body will suffer from muscle pains. Like in all sports, warm-up exercises everyday are important.

Daily Warm-Up Exercises That Will Help Your Body Get Conditioned
  • Arm stretching
  • Back stretching
  • Leg stretching. Try reaching your toes while keeping your knees from bending. You can do this either by sitting on the floor or in a standing position. I recommend you do both.
  • Hip rotation
  • Knee rotation
  • Knee pumps. Doing 30 counts would be good, but if it's too hard, maybe you can start with 10.
  • Sit ups. Do 20-30 sit ups daily. Abdomen exercise like this will help you gain good balance on ice.
  • Jumping jacks. 30-50 counts to wake you up.
These exercises will help strengthen your legs, which is what you will use all the time you're on ice. These are also what I usually do, but the most beneficial I think, would always be choosing to walk up the stairs instead of taking an elevator or escalator. Choose the stairs!

Stuff To Bring When You Ice Skate
  • Yourself in a proper outfit. Please wear something that will be comfortable to move around with. Don't wear a dress or skirt--unless you want a badly bruised knee when you fall.
  • Thick socks
  • Gloves (optional). We live in a tropical country and it's not everyday that we touch ice. Gloves will help you keep warm while on ice.
  • Food and lots of water if you plan to skate for more than four hours.

Some Things You Need To Know About SM Megamall Ice Skating Rink

  • The ice skating rink is in the 5th level of the new building also known as Mega Fashion Hall.
  • Unlimited time on ice inclusive of skates during weekdays costs P300. It costs P390 during weekends. I think it's best to skate during weekdays because it's cheaper and less people around to crash on.
  • Locker rental costs P40 and is only good for one-time use. One-time use means that when you put your things inside, you're only allowed to open the locker once. After opening it once, you won't be able to close it anymore. Kinda lame system but it's business. They have to make money.

  • If you're a thrift buff like me, it's best to forego the locker and just claim a spot where you can leave your things. I plan ahead whenever I skate so I only bring a bag with food and water in it and leave them. Now, let's go on ice!

You need to pay on the Ice Skating counter and once you've paid, you'll be given a wrist band. Present the wrist band upon entry and they will be the one to put it on you.

Better not lose your band or else you'll pay more than what you paid for skating.
Proceed to the foot sizing area to get your skate boot size. Make sure that it has a wee little allowance because your feet will die if you choke them tightly. Tell the shoe rental people your size and they'll get the skates for you. Once you've worn your skates, you're off to the ice! Have fun! (Especially when they play Let It Go as background music)

I spend at least 5 hours on ice whenever I skate. Para sulit ang P300! :)
PRICE UPDATE: Starting January 2015, ice rink fee is now P390 regardless if the day be a weekday, weekend, or holiday. Locker rental fee is now P50.
