I just made a trip to YouTube to see trailers since I don't have time to watch movies. Trailers of Harry Potter 1-5 (do you call this quintology?) and that of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
It seems that I really am so old. I was only 12 when Harry Potter first came out and now they're on to the sixth movie--which I will not watch since I have not read the book. It's book first then movie policy here. :D I mean, I'd really rather read than watch.
Both films had me reminisce my childhood years. How I miss both those series! Harry Potter helped me a lot in my vocabulary I must admit. That was when I realized how much I love English. Harry Potter was my stepping stone to deeper delving of English literature magnates. From Harry Potter I went to Narnia and then to the most adventurous world of Middle Earth.
I think Harry Potter might just live on as a classic. It's a good piece of literature but it's not as deep as The Lord of the Rings. I don't know but Lord of the Rings gives a sense of wonder that Harry Potter can't give. Perhaps it's because Harry Potter is a bit modern and Lord of the Rings is a completely different world. There's just sheer beauty in the names Lothlorien, Rivendell, Arwen, Galadriel, Faramir, Eowyn and The Shire. I would often pause and enjoy the beauty of those names in my thoughts whenever I hear them.
Moviewise of course Lord of the Rings surpasses both Narnia and Harry Potter. And yeah, I don't want to be harsh but I'd like to say to Narnia filmmakers, "What on earth are you doing?!!!" I was really disappointed with Prince Caspian.
Well, if it be a hierarchy Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia and then Harry Potter.
*sigh*
I want to see all these series again!!! I miss the brandishing of swords and horses galloping in LOTR so much!
*sigh*
